MINUTES
Beach Erosion Committee Meeting, January 4, 2000
Attendees:
Bo Ellis
William Bailey
Stuart Stevens
Charles Griffen (for Larry Keegan)
Bill Farmer
Rubinette Douglas Guest
The committee considered two possible new scientific studies for recommendation to the SEG, namely:
1. On the shoreline
2. Adjacent to existing sand dunes (construct new sand dunes)
CONCLUSIONS:
It was determined that the comprehensive Benefit/Cost Study would not be within the scope of the Harbor Expansion Project.
The scientific study to determine the three Coarse/Fine Sand Ratios was determined to be within the scope of the Harbor Expansion Project, and Charles Griffen indicated that the GPA would proceed with this study, with ATM providing the needed Task Statement. A recommendation from the SEG to the GPA was not needed.
OTHER:
The Coarse/Fine Sand Ratio Study will include research into what other states are doing with regards to criteria used for beneficial use of dredged materials. This study will also provide input into the development of a Comprehensive Inlet Management Plan. The study results will be utilized in conjunction with the geotechnical data for the ocean channel to accomplish the planned Beneficial Use Of Dredged Material Study during the Engineering Design Phase of the Project.
