Dredged Material Beneficial Usage Evaluation
Started: 3rd
Quarter 2005
Completion: 4th
Quarter 2006
Brief description:
This work will examine the opportunity to utilize the dredged
materials removed to
construct a deeper channel for beach nourishment, construction of
feeder berms, or other
beneficial usage. It is expected the most likely beneficiary will be
Tybee Island, but
placement is not limited to this location. This work is complementary
to and partly
dependent upon, analysis work in progress by the Savannah District,
USACE, to identify and
evaluate both the positive and negative impacts of beneficial placement
of harbor
sediments on the tidal delta and adjacent ocean shores associated with
maintenance of the
Savannah Harbor Navigation Project. It is also complementary to the
Beach Erosion Study
which will determine the sediment budget in the vicinity of the harbor
entrance.
This work has been incorporated into the Dredged Material Management
Plan (DMMP) Update family of tasks as an individual component. Future
status will be reflected on the status page for the DMMP work.
