Coastal Erosion Analysis
Started: 2nd

Quarter 2006
Brief
description:
The goal of this
study is to
evaluate the long-term coastal shoreline impacts of the proposed
Savannah
Harbor Expansion Project to the littoral system and the coastal
shoreline. The specific objectives of this
study will be
to assess the impact of deepening the Savannah Harbor
navigation channel on the regional sediment budget and to quantify the
influence of the deepening project on increased shoreline recession
rates. Included in this analysis are: 1)
historical data analysis from existing reports and data
sets which quantify the shoreline position change, bathymetry change,
beach profile
adjustments, dredging quantities and sediment type, wave and current
patterns,
storm frequency and magnitude, and water level fluctuations; and 2)
hydrodynamic
modeling, and wave transformation to document the impact of channel
modifications on water level, current and wave propagation and sediment
transport. The analysis will incorporate, as appropriate,
the information produced by the Beach Erosion Study .
Current
status:
The coastal erosion analysis is complete.
